Is It Really Important To Get a Train For My Dress?

The Modern Dress Is More About Personal Preferences

Have you seen the pictures of your mother's wedding or your grandmother's wedding? Chances are they didn't wear a train. In fact, the train on the wedding dress becoming a common event is an advent of the mid 1970's and 80's as becoming common place. For many years, the long train was something that was reserved for the wealthy, the prestigious, or for royalty. Then, when other women began to see how elegant these "wealthy" women looked in their long trains, they decided to begin emulating them and hence the advent of the train.

There are many dressmakers who will tell you that you have to get a train for your dress and that a wedding dress is nothing without that long train. What they don't tell you, however, is that they make a lot more money on dresses that contain a train - in fact, a wedding dress with a train can add 40% or more to the cost of a dress when compared to one without a train.

That's not to say that you can't have a train on your dress... it's just to say that you're not forced to wear a train on your dress if you don't want to. The modern wedding dress is about style, sophistication, and personality, not regal elegance. In fact, many of the wedding dresses that are available in the 2012 collections don't have a train. Others have a small, detachable train so that you can wear it to the ceremony and get rid of it. Very few dresses these days actually have the train in the modern collection.

That's because the wedding dress has started to evolve past the "wear it once and store" view. Wedding dresses now are meant to be worn on special occasions, on nights out on the town, and for other special events. They are more than just an investment toward the symbol of love and purity that gets a one and done treatment. In fact, the best wedding dresses are able to be multi-use, easy to clean, and still elegant and beautiful.

No matter what the style of dress is that you are craving, you'll be able to get the exact look you want, train or not, and be able to get it at a great price when you shop around and search out the best deals. Don't be afraid to say no to a dress to wait for the next best one... no matter what you decide about the train.
